How To Help A Bereaved Parent
1.
Listen without judging.
2.
Listen without offering “advice.”
3.
Let them talk.
4.
Validate their feelings—(you will be witness to strong emotions).
5.
Talk about their child, if you didn't’t know them ask questions about them—parents want to talk about their child, to hear his name and to know that others haven’t forgotten.
6.
Try not to say trite things such as “he’s in a better place, time will heal, God must have had a plan for him, it’ll be ok, you need to move on, I know how you feel, it’s time to get rid of his stuff”, etc.
7.
If you’re not sure what to say the best thing is “I’m so sorry.” And to listen.
8.
Don’t avoid them.
9.
If you ask “what can I do to help?” mean it, and be willing to help them with something they suggest.

This is a song that makes me think of David. It's titled Live like you were dying by Tim McGraw.
